Urban markets have exploded over the past few years, often anchoring mixed-use developments in city centers. It’s also an area that Flō is exceptionally skilled in. With urban markets, operational requirements vary greatly as the stores’ mechanical systems need to be integrated into the main building systems. Flō was brought on to work with a Canadian food retailer’s consulting engineers for all new urban market store openings in the province of Ontario.
Since opening the first store every project has been unique, requiring custom designed solutions for everything from water-cooled units to heat pumps and air handling units. Flō’s controls and refrigeration expertise have proven extremely beneficial in coordination with the base building engineers, many of whom have little to no supermarket design experience.
